The "Festival de Música Clásica Port de Sóller" is taking place for its sixth year. From the very beginning, it has become one of the outstanding events for the lovers of classical music in Mallorca. In conjunction with the great pianist Alexander Malter, who is the artistic consultant for the entire festival, we are able to present concerts of the very highest quality.

The first concert this year will be  a special open air concert, which will take place on   the 21st of August, at 21,00 h. and is a part of the San Bartolomé festivities, the patron saint of the town of Soller, Mallorca. In a romantic evening for two pianos: the Japanese pianist Chieko Yokoyama-Tancke and our artistic director, pianist Alexander Malter, will play works of the Russian composers Sergei Rachmaninoff and Arensky Antón.

In September and October we will have the pleasure of listening to musicians such as the “Charlottenburger Bach Soloists”, the violinist Rainer Sonne, concertmaster of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and Georg Faust first principal cello of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra.  Our  artistic consultant, Alexander Malter will give a piano recital  at the opening night of our festival on the 25th of september. So once again, we will be able to enjoy classical music at its highest level in Port de Sóller.

The fact that these concerts can take place in such an exclusive atmosphere, is based on the big changes which have been made during the last few years in the Port de Sóller. The former Santa Catalina monastery has been converted into a museum and the chapel has been adapted as a concert and event hall. Taking advantage of these improvements in the area, the Hotel Association decided to go one step further by organizing the annual Festival de Música in order to give another high quality attraction to the region.

With the kind support of sponsors, the Soller community and the Government of the Baleares it has been possible to hold these autumn concerts and offer each year a wonderful meeting point for all friends of chamber music. We are more than pleased to once again welcome this year residents and guests of the island to join the Festival de Música.
